TOOTH EXTRACTIONS IN PITTSBURGH
Although our goal is always to save your original teeth if possible, there are times when you and Pittsburgh dentist Dr. Pounds may agree that an extraction is the best course of action. This could be for any number of reasons, including:
- Severely decayed teeth
- Teeth that have been broken off below the gum-line and are not salvageable.
- Impacted teeth, or teeth requiring removal for orthodontic reasons
- Teeth affected by advanced periodontal disease.
The removal of a single tooth can lead to multiple problems. Adjacent teeth lose the support of the full arch and can shift or drift, chewing can become difficult, speech can be impaired, and the jaw will begin to lose bone in the site of the lost tooth.
To avoid these complications, Dr. Pounds will discuss both your alternatives to extraction and steps that can be taken post-extraction to support the remaining teeth.
