Dr. Rebecca Pounds is a 2004 graduate of the University of Maryland’s historic Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. Dr. Pounds received her undergraduate degree from the Robert E. Cook Honors College at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
After Dental School, Dr. Pounds moved to Pittsburgh to complete a General Practice Residency at Pittsburgh’s Allegheny General Hospital. Following her residency, Dr. Pounds practiced locally in an advanced cosmetic and restorative general practice prior to deciding to take on her next challenge which would be to own her own practice. In 2006, Cantor and Masterson Dental Associates became Cantor and Pounds Dental Associates.
The office is located on the third floor of The Hartley-Rose Building, a national historic landmark. The loft style building has been gracefully adapted for professional offices and is conveniently located at First Avenue and Cherry Way in Downtown Pittsburgh. Warm brick walls and deeply grained oak ceilings surround the visitor with the beauty and detail of another era. Dr. Pounds fell in love with the space the minute she walked into the office.
Dr. Pounds is very active in the local community and has been recognized for the past 3 years as one of Pittsburgh’s Top Dentists in Pittsburgh Magazine.
Dr. Pounds is a member of the following professional organizations: American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Dental Society of Western Pennsylvania, Discovery Study Club, and an alumni member of the Psi Omega Dental Fraternity.
Dr. Pounds is an active member of the Rivers Club in downtown Pittsburgh. She serves on both the Board of Governors as well as the Young Executive Council.
In 2009, Dr. Pounds was selected as one of Pittsburgh’s 50 Finest by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Dr. Pounds enjoys running and in her spare time she can be found at the park training for a marathon. Dr. Pounds is a member of the Children’s Hospital Boston Team. Dr. Pounds is also a coach for an international program called Girls on the Run. The Girls on the Run program is a non-profit program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running.
Dr. Pounds is also a mentor for Youth Works and the Pennsylvania Dental Association.
Dr. Pounds is very active with the IUP Alumni Association. She serves on many committees throughout the year. Currently, Dr. Pounds is serving as the honorary co-chair for the On Your Mark Club.
Dr. Pounds is a very active individual. She enjoys giving back to the community as well as finding ways to keep physically fit. When she is not at the office, one is most likely to find her running or biking at the park with her friends or watching one of her favorite Pittsburgh sports teams. She loves to be outdoors and she loves to find ways to incorporate her athletic activities into giving back to the community.
